About Brenda Amanda Mwaya

Why do I write

I engage in writing as I recognize it as a unique gift. Possessing the ability to articulate thoughts on paper surpasses verbal communication for me. The written word holds a profound and enduring significance, fostering deeper understanding than spoken words.

Writing preserves memories, unlike fleeting spoken expressions. The act of writing, when read aloud, captivates and prompts contemplation. To me, writing is a timeless encapsulation of words and emotions – a Word Graphy! It grants readers the freedom to interpret expressions, embarking on an imaginative journey through written narratives.

Diverse and Inclusive Narratives

Brenda's literary voyage began with the raw honesty of her own life in "An Illegal Immigrant’s Journey," a powerful narrative that laid the foundation for her commitment to storytelling. In 2019, she ventured into children's literature with "If You Are A Kid Straight Out Of Philly," marking the beginning of a series that now includes "Mother, I Don’t See Things Like You Do!" and "Gogi, Which Shade Of Skin Color Is The Best?"—each a testament to her dedication to diverse and inclusive narratives.

Beyond her role as an author, Brenda Amanda Mwaya is a multifaceted creator—an inventor and entrepreneur.

In her spare time, Brenda cherishes moments with her four talented children. Family is at the heart of her creative endeavors, and it reflects in the warmth that permeates her stories.

What values are important to me when I write?

When crafting children’s books, I am convinced that my writing imparts valuable life lessons and moral values in small, relatable ways. I aim to reshape a child’s perspective on daily life by incorporating messages of color, fun, history, diversity, equality, unity, and teamwork into my stories. I ponder solutions to the challenges children face, drawing from experiences I've witnessed.

In my children's books, I prioritize empathy, honesty, kindness, perseverance, and the significance of making good choices. My goal is to underscore the importance of every child in our society, helping them recognize it through the stories I create.
